Let Heaven Rejoice
Bob Dufford, SJ

Let heaven rejoice and earth
be glad; let all creation sing.
Let children proclaim through
ev’ry land: “Hosanna to our King!”

Sound the trumpet into
the night; the day of
the Lord is near.
Wake his people,
Lift your voice,
proclaim it to the world.

Let heaven rejoice and earth
be glad; let all creation sing.
Let children proclaim through
ev’ry land: “Hosanna to our King!”

Rise in splendor;
shake off your sleep;
put on your robes of joy.
And in the morning you
shall see the glory of the Lord.

Let heaven rejoice and earth
be glad; let all creation sing.
Let children proclaim through
ev’ry land: “Hosanna to our King!”

Raise your voices, be not afraid.
Proclaim it in every land.
Christ has died, but He has risen;
He will come again.

Let heaven rejoice and earth
be glad; let all creation sing.
Let children proclaim through
ev’ry land: “Hosanna to our King!”

Glory to God on high!

And peace on Earth,
Goodwill towards men.
We worship you,
we give you thanks,
we praise you for your glory.
We worship you,
we give you thanks,
we praise you for your glory.

Glory! Glory to God!
Glory to God on high!

Glory to God on high!

1st Reading

Is 7:10-14

A reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah

The LORD spoke to Ahaz:
Ask for a sign from the LORD, your God;
let it be deep as the nether world, or high as the sky!
But Ahaz answered,
“I will not ask! I will not tempt the LORD!”
Then Isaiah said:
   Listen, O house of David!
Is it not enough for you to weary men,
must you also weary my God?
Therefore the Lord himself will give you this sign:
the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
   and shall name him Emmanuel.

The word of the Lord.

The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm

℟. (see 7c and 10b) Let the Lord enter; he is the king of glory.

The LORD’S are the earth and its fullness;
the world and those who dwell in it.
For he founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the rivers.

℟. Let the Lord enter; he is the king of glory.

Who can ascend the mountain of the LORD?
or who may stand in his holy place?
He whose hands are sinless, whose heart is clean,
who desires not what is vain.

℟. Let the Lord enter; he is the king of glory.

He shall receive a blessing from the LORD,
a reward from God his savior.
Such is the race that seeks for him,
that seeks the face of the God of Jacob.

℟. Let the Lord enter; he is the king of glory.

Alleluia, Alleluia.

O Key of David,
opening the gates of God’s eternal Kingdom:
come and free the prisoners of darkness!

Alleluia, Alleluia.

Gospel

Lk 1:26-38

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke

In the sixth month,
the angel Gabriel was sent from God
to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,
to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph,
   of the house of David,
and the virgin’s name was Mary.
And coming to her, he said,
“Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.”
But she was greatly troubled at what was said
and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.
Then the angel said to her,
   “Do not be afraid, Mary,
for you have found favor with God.
Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son,
and you shall name him Jesus.
He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High,
and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father,
and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever,
and of his Kingdom there will be no end.”

But Mary said to the angel,
   “How can this be,
since I have no relations with a man?”
And the angel said to her in reply,
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.
Therefore the child to be born
will be called holy, the Son of God.
And behold, Elizabeth, your relative,
has also conceived a son in her old age,
   and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;
for nothing will be impossible for God.”

Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.
May it be done to me according to your word.”
Then the angel departed from her.

At the end of the Gospel, the Deacon, or the Priest, acclaims:

The Gospel of the Lord.

All reply:

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Then he kisses the book, saying quietly:

Through the words of the Gospel
may our sins be wiped away.

The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.

O Come Divine Messiah

O come, Divine Messiah,
O Word of God
and Mary's Son:
we long to see your triumph
when sin and death are done!

Lord Jesus, come!
Come to your own!
With eager eyes, we watch
the skies 'till on the clouds
You take Your Throne!

O come, Divine Messiah,
O Word of God
and Mary's Son:
we long to see your triumph
when sin and death are done!

Lord Jesus, come!
Come to our earth! and there begin to banish sin and bring us all to heavenly birth!

O come, Divine Messiah,
O Word of God
and Mary's Son:
we long to see your triumph
when sin and death are done!

Dear Savior, haste!
Come, come to earth!
Dispel the night and show
Your face and bid us hail the dawn of grace.

O come, Divine Messiah,
O Word of God
and Mary's Son:
we long to see your triumph
when sin and death are done!

Hail Mary, Gentle Woman
Carey Landry

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among
women, and blest is the fruit
of your womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now
and at the hour of death.
Amen.

Gentle woman,
quiet light, morning star,
so strong and bright,
gentle Mother,
peaceful dove,
teach us wisdom;
teach us love.

You were chosen by the Father; you were chosen for the Son.
You were chosen from
all women and for woman, shining one.

Gentle woman,
quiet light, morning star,
so strong and bright,
gentle Mother,
peaceful dove,
teach us wisdom;
teach us love.

Blessed are you among
women, blest in turn
all women, too.
Blessed they with
peaceful spirits.
Blessed they with
gentle hearts.

Gentle woman,
quiet light, morning star,
so strong and bright,
gentle Mother,
peaceful dove,
teach us wisdom;
teach us love.

The Dawn of Day
Lucien Deiss

For soon the dawn of day
will come and the light
will burst forth in your night.
For soon the dawn of day
will come and the love in your
heart will rejoice on this
day of the Lord, on this
day of our joy, peace and
beauty will fill the earth.

For soon, O Lord,
your day will come.
Yes, soon, O Lord Jesus Christ.

For soon the angels’ choir
will sing and the portals of
heav’n open wide.
For soon the angel's choir
will sing and the glory of Christ
will appear on this day,
earth and heav’n will be
joined in your love,
and the feasting will never end.

For soon, O Lord,
your day will come.
Yes, soon, O Lord Jesus Christ.

For soon your pain
will disappear and the wound
in your heart will be healed.
For soon the pain
will disappear and the Lord
will take you in His arms.
No more death, no more tears,
no more grief, no more pain,
for the old world will pass away.

For soon, O Lord,
your day will come.
Yes, soon, O Lord Jesus Christ.

For soon your kingdom
will be here and your love
will abide in our lives.
For soon your kingdom
will be here and the brightness
of Christ will be seen
on this day without end,
gathered all in your home,
face to face we will see you Lord.

Jesus, Come To Us
David Haas

Jesus, come to us,
lead us to your light.
Jesus, be with us,
for we need you.

Lord, we come before you,
listen to our prayer.
Fill us with your hope
and your love.

Jesus, come to us,
lead us to your light.
Jesus, be with us,
for we need you.

Lord, we come to praise you
for your faithfulness
through night.
You will be with us,
this we know.

Jesus, come to us,
lead us to your light.
Jesus, be with us,
for we need you.

Lord, you give us wonders
your glory to all.
We believe in you,
come to us.

Jesus, come to us,
lead us to your light.
Jesus, be with us,
for we need you.

People, Look East
Eleanor Farjeon

People, look East.
The time is near of the
crowning of the year.
Make your house fair
as you are able.
Trim the hearth
and set the table.
People, look East, and sing
today: Love, the Guest,
is on the way.

Furrows, be glad,
though earth is bare.
One more seed is planted there;
Give up your strength the
seed to nourish, that in course
the flow’r may flourish.
People, look East, and sing
today: Love, the Rose,
is on the way.

Stars, keep the watch
when night is dim.
One more light the bowl
shall brim.
Shining beyond the
frosty weather,
bright as sun and moon together.
People, look East, and sing
today: Love, the Star,
is on the way.

Angels, announce on this
great feast: Him who cometh
from the East.
Set ev’ry peak and valley
humming with the word,
the Lord is coming.
People, look East, and sing
today: Love, the Lord,
is on the way.
