Canticle of the Sun
Marty Haugen

The heavens are telling
the glory of God, and all creation is shouting for joy.
Come, dance in the forest,
come, play in the field,
and sing, sing to
the glory of the Lord.

Praise for the sun, the bringer
of day, He carries the light
of the Lord in his rays;
The moon and the stars
who light up the way
unto your throne.

The heavens are telling
the glory of God, and all creation is shouting for joy.
Come, dance in the forest,
come, play in the field,
and sing, sing to
the glory of the Lord.

Praise for the wind
that blows through the trees,
the seas mighty storms,
the gentlest breeze;
They blow where they will,
they blow where they please
to please the Lord.

The heavens are telling
the glory of God, and all creation is shouting for joy.
Come, dance in the forest,
come, play in the field,
and sing, sing to
the glory of the Lord.

Praise for the earth,
who makes life to grow,
the creatures You made,
to let Your life show;
the flowers and trees,
that help us to know,
the heart of love.

The heavens are telling
the glory of God, and all creation is shouting for joy.
Come, dance in the forest,
come, play in the field,
and sing, sing to
the glory of the Lord.

Sing, sing to the
glory of the Lord!

Psalmody

PSALMODY

Ant. 1 Dawn finds me ready to welcome you, my God.

Psalm 119:145-152
XIX (Koph)

A meditation on God’s law

I call with all my heart; Lord, hear me, *
I will keep your commands.
I call upon you, save me *
and I will do your will.

I rise before dawn and cry for help, *
I hope in your word.
My eyes watch through the night *
to ponder your promise.

In your love hear my voice, O Lord; *
give me life by your decrees.
Those who harm me unjustly draw near: *
they are far from your law.

But you, O Lord, are close: *
your commands are truth.
Long have I known that your will *
is established for ever.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever. Amen.

Psalm Prayer

Save us by the power of your hand, Father, for our enemies have ignored your words. May the fire of your word consume our sins and its brightness illumine our hearts.

Ant. Dawn finds me ready to welcome you, my God.

Ant. 2 The Lord is my strength, and I shall sing his praise, for he has become my Savior.

Canticle: Exodus 15:1-4a, 8-13, 17-18
Hymn of victory after the crossing of the Red Sea

I will sing to the Lord, for he is gloriously triumphant; *
horse and chariot he has cast into the sea.

My strength and my courage is the Lord, *
and he has been my savior.
He is my God, I praise him; *
the God of my father, I extol him.

The Lord is a warrior, *
Lord is his name!
Pharaoh’s chariots and army he hurled into the sea. *
At a breath of your anger the waters piled up,
the flowing waters stood like a mound, *
the flood waters congealed in the midst of the sea.

The enemy boasted, “I will pursue and overtake them;
I will divide the spoils and have my fill of them; *
I will draw my sword; my hand shall despoil them!”
When your wind blew, the sea covered them; *
like lead they sank in the mighty waters.

Who is like to you among the gods, O Lord? *
Who is like to you, magnificent in holiness?
O terrible in renown, worker of wonders, *
when you stretched out your right hand, the earth swallowed them!

In your mercy you led the people you redeemed; *
in your strength you guided them to your holy dwelling.

And you brought them in and planted them on the mountain of your inheritance— *
the place where you made your seat, O Lord,
the sanctuary, O Lord, which your hands established. *
The Lord shall reign forever and ever.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever. Amen.

Ant. The Lord is my strength, and I shall sing his praise, for he has become my Savior.

Ant. 3 O praise the Lord, all you nations.

Psalm 117
Praise for God’s loving compassion

O praise the Lord, all you nations, *
acclaim him, all you peoples!

Strong is his love for us; *
he is faithful for ever.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever. Amen.

Psalm Prayer

God our Father, may all nations and peoples praise you. May Jesus, who is called faithful and true and who lives with you eternally, possess our hearts for ever.

Ant. O praise the Lord, all you nations.

1st Reading

1 Cor 1:26-31

A reading from the first Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians

Consider your own calling, brothers and sisters.
Not many of you were wise by human standards,
   not many were powerful,
not many were of noble birth.
Rather, God chose the foolish of the world to shame the wise,
and God chose the weak of the world to shame the strong,
and God chose the lowly and despised of the world,
   those who count for nothing,
to reduce to nothing those who are something,
so that no human being might boast before God.
It is due to him that you are in Christ Jesus,
who became for us wisdom from God,
as well as righteousness, sanctification, and redemption,
so that, as it is written,
Whoever boasts, should boast in the Lord.

The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm

℟. (12) Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own.

Blessed the nation whose God is the LORD,
the people he has chosen for his own inheritance.
From heaven the LORD looks down;
   he sees all mankind.

℟. Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own.

But see, the eyes of the LORD are upon those who fear him,
upon those who hope for his kindness,
To deliver them from death
and preserve them in spite of famine.

℟. Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own.

Our soul waits for the LORD,
who is our help and our shield,
For in him our hearts rejoice;
in his holy name we trust.

℟. Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own.

Alleluia, Alleluia.

I give you a new commandment:
love one another as I have loved you.

Alleluia, Alleluia.

Gospel

Mt 25:14-30

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew

Jesus told his disciples this parable:
“A man going on a journey
called in his servants and entrusted his possessions to them.
To one he gave five talents; to another, two; to a third, one—
to each according to his ability.
Then he went away.
Immediately the one who received five talents went and traded with them,
   and made another five.
Likewise, the one who received two made another two.
But the man who received one went off and dug a hole in the ground
   and buried his master’s money.
After a long time
the master of those servants came back and settled accounts with them.
The one who had received five talents
came forward bringing the additional five.
He said, ‘Master, you gave me five talents.
See, I have made five more.’
His master said to him, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant.
Since you were faithful in small matters,
I will give you great responsibilities.
Come, share your master’s joy.’
Then the one who had received two talents also came forward and said,
‘Master, you gave me two talents.
See, I have made two more.’
His master said to him, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant.
Since you were faithful in small matters,
I will give you great responsibilities.
Come, share your master’s joy.’
Then the one who had received the one talent came forward and said,
‘Master, I knew you were a demanding person,
harvesting where you did not plant
   and gathering where you did not scatter;
so out of fear I went off and buried your talent in the ground.
Here it is back.’
His master said to him in reply, ‘You wicked, lazy servant!
So you knew that I harvest where I did not plant
and gather where I did not scatter?
Should you not then have put my money in the bank
so that I could have got it back with interest on my return?
Now then! Take the talent from him and give it to the one with ten.
For to everyone who has,
   more will be given and he will grow rich;
but from the one who has not,
even what he has will be taken away.
And throw this useless servant into the darkness outside,
where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.’”

At the end of the Gospel, the Deacon, or the Priest, acclaims:

The Gospel of the Lord.

All reply:

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Then he kisses the book, saying quietly:

Through the words of the Gospel
may our sins be wiped away.

The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.

Nicene Creed

I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of
the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified
under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right
hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the
Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son
is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in One, Holy,
Catholic and Apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism
for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to
the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come.

Amen.

Lord, We Gather Today
Lester Delgado

Lord, we gather today, in your house we kneel down and pray.
We ask for your mercy as we
open our hearts to receive your forgiveness, O Lord.

Lord, we lift up to you, all these gifts we offer for your glory.
We will eat this living bread,
we will drink this saving cup,
and feel your presence, O Lord.

As we offer this bread and
as we bring you this wine,
bless them Lord Jesus,
feed us now, give us life.
Send us your spirit,
the source of our lives,
and together we will
serve you with love.

As we offer this bread and
as we bring you this wine,
bless them Lord Jesus,
feed us now, give us life.
Send us your spirit,
the source of our lives,
and together we will
serve you with love.

Our Father
Light from Light
M.V. Francisco, SJ

Our Father,
who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name;
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day
our daily bread, and
forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who
trespass against us;
and lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us,
deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and forever.

Lamb of God

Lamb of God,
you take away the sins
of the world, have mercy,
have mercy on us.

Lamb of God,
you take away the sins
of the world, have mercy,
have mercy on us.

Lamb of God,
you take away the sins
of the world, grant us peace,
grant us peace.

Age to Age
Janet Vogt

Age to age we will love you.
Dawning light we
will wake with you.
Into night we will follow you.
We will love you age to age.

As the eagle flies to the
heav’ns above,
on wing of faith God
will bear you up.

Age to age we will love you.
Dawning light we
will wake with you.
Into night we will follow you.
We will love you age to age.

As the lilies of the field
neither toil nor spin,
what splendor we find
in the love God gives.

Age to age we will love you.
Dawning light we
will wake with you.
Into night we will follow you.
We will love you age to age.

Lord, let my faith in you
be revealed.
Only say the word
and I shall be healed.

Age to age we will love you.
Dawning light we
will wake with you.
Into night we will follow you.
We will love you age to age.

We will love you age to age.

Gospel Canticle

Ant. You answered her prayer, O Lord, you did not disregard her tears which fell upon the earth wherever she prayed.

Canticle of Zechariah
Luke 1:68-79
The Messiah and his forerunner

Blessed + be the Lord, the God of Israel; *
he has come to his people and set them free.

He has raised up for us a mighty savior, *
born of the house of his servant David.

Through his holy prophets he promised of old
that he would save us from our enemies, *
from the hands of all who hate us.

He promised to show mercy to our fathers *
and to remember his holy covenant.

This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham: *
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
free to worship him without fear, *
holy and righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High; *
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
to give his people knowledge of salvation *
by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God *
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, *
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever. Amen.

Ant. You answered her prayer, O Lord, you did not disregard her tears which fell upon the earth wherever she prayed.

I Will Sing Forever
M. V. Francisco, SJ

I will sing forever of Your love,
O Lord, I will celebrate the
wonder of Your name.
For the word that You speak
is a song of forgiveness
and a song of gentle
mercy and of peace.

Let us wake at the morning
and be filled with Your love
and sing songs of praise
all our days,
for Your love is as high
as the heavens above us,
and Your faithfulness
as certain as the dawn.

I will sing forever of Your love,
O Lord, for You are my
refuge and my strength.
You fill the world with
Your life-giving spirit
that speaks Your word, Your
word of mercy and of peace.

And I will sing forever
of Your love, O Lord.
Yes I will sing forever
of Your love, O Lord.
