Sixth Day Novena in honor of Jesus, Our Transfigured Lord

Sing a Joyful Song
Jim Farell

Sing a joyful song to the Lord! Alleluia!
Let the heavens and earth rejoice!
Alleluia! alleluia!

The heavens proclaim God’s name,
and earth in reply
echoes back with joyful
songs of praise!

Sing a joyful song to the Lord! Alleluia!
Let the heavens and earth rejoice!
Alleluia! alleluia!

Our God is a mighty God, unequalled in pow’r,
yet with gentle mercy
covers the earth.

Sing a joyful song to the Lord! Alleluia!
Let the heavens and earth rejoice!
Alleluia! alleluia!

Sing praise O Jerusalem!
Sing praise to your King,
ruling earth with justice,
age after age.

Sing a joyful song to the Lord! Alleluia!
Let the heavens and earth rejoice!
Alleluia! alleluia!

Holy, holy, holy Lord of all!

Sing a joyful song to the Lord! Alleluia!
Let the heavens and earth rejoice!
Alleluia! alleluia!

Psalmody

Ant. 1 Lord, send forth your light and your truth.

Psalm 43
Longing for the Temple

Defend me, O God, and plead my cause *
against a godless nation.
From deceitful and cunning men *
rescue me, O God.

Since you, O God, are my stronghold, *
why have you rejected me?
Why do I go mourning *
oppressed by the foe?

O send forth your light and your truth; *
let these be my guide.
Let them bring me to your holy mountain *
to the place where you dwell.

And I will come to the altar of God, *
the God of my joy.
My redeemer, I will thank you on the harp, *
O God, my God.

Why are you cast down, my soul, *
why groan within me?
Hope in God; I will praise him still, *
my savior and my God.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever. Amen.

Psalm Prayer

Almighty Father, source of everlasting light, send forth your truth into our hearts and pour over us the brightness of your light.

Ant. Lord, send forth your light and your truth.

Ant. 2 Lord, keep us safe all the days of our life.

Canticle: Isaiah 38:10-14, 17b-20

Once I said, *
“In the noontime of life I must depart!
To the gates of the nether world I shall be consigned *
for the rest of my years.”

I said, “I shall see the Lord no more *
in the land of the living.
No longer shall I behold my fellow men *
among those who dwell in the world.”

My dwelling, like a shepherd’s tent, *
is struck down and borne away from me;
you have folded up my life, like a weaver *
who severs the last thread.

Day and night you give me over to torment; *
I cry out until the dawn.
Like a lion he breaks all my bones; *
day and night you give me over to torment.

Like a swallow I utter shrill cries; *
I moan like a dove.
My eyes grow weak, gazing heavenward: *
O Lord, I am in straits; be my surety!

You have preserved my life *
from the pit of destruction,
When you cast behind your back *
all my sins.

For it is not the nether world that gives you thanks, *
nor death that praises you;
Neither do those who go down into the pit *
await your kindness.

The living, the living give you thanks, *
as I do today.
Fathers declare to their sons, *
O God, your faithfulness.

The Lord is our savior; *
we shall sing to stringed instruments
In the house of the Lord *
all the days of our life.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever. Amen.

Ant. Lord, keep us safe all the days of our life.

Ant. 3 To you, O God, our praise is due in Zion.

Psalm 65
Solemn thanksgiving

To you our praise is due *
in Zion, O God.
To you we pay our vows, *
you who hear our prayer.

To you all flesh will come *
with its burden of sin.
Too heavy for us, our offenses, *
but you wipe them away.

Blessed is he whom you choose and call *
to dwell in your courts.
We are filled with the blessings of your house, *
of your holy temple.

You keep your pledge with wonders, *
O God our savior,
the hope of all the earth *
and of far distant isles.

You uphold the mountains with your strength, *
you are girded with power.
You still the roaring of the seas, †
the roaring of their waves *
and the tumult of the peoples.

The ends of the earth stand in awe *
at the sight of your wonders.
The lands of sunrise and sunset *
you fill with your joy.

You care for the earth, give it water; *
you fill it with riches.
Your river in heaven brims over *
to provide its grain.

And thus you provide for the earth; *
you drench its furrows,
you level it, soften it with showers, *
you bless its growth.

You crown the year with your goodness. †
Abundance flows in your steps, *
in the pastures of the wilderness it flows.

The hills are girded with joy, *
the meadows covered with flocks,
the valleys are decked with wheat. *
They shout for joy, yes they sing.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever. Amen.

Psalm Prayer

Lord God, hope of all the earth, hear the humble prayer of your children as we sing your praises. Pour out your Spirit on us so that our lives may bear fruit abundantly.

Ant. To you, O God, our praise is due in Zion.

Glory to God
Mass of Christ the Savior
Dan Schutte, SJ

Glory to God! Glory to God!
Glory to God in the highest!
And on earth, peace on earth,
peace to people of good will.

We praise You, we bless You,
We adore You, we glorify You,
We give You thanks
for Your great glory,
Lord God, Heavenly King,
O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ,
Only Begotten Son,
Lord God, Lamb of God,
Son of the Father,
You take away the
sins of the world,
have mercy on us;
You take away the sins of
the world, receive our pray'r;
You are seated at the
right hand, the right hand of
the Father, have mercy on us.

For You alone
are the Holy One;
You alone are the Lord.
You alone are the Most High,
Jesus Christ,
With the Holy Spirit, in the
glory of God, the Father.

And on earth, peace on earth,
peace to people of good will.

Amen! Amen!

1st Reading

Jer 30:1-2, 12-15, 18-22

A reading from the Book of the Prophet Jeremiah

The following message came to Jeremiah from the LORD:
For thus says the LORD, the God of Israel:
Write all the words I have spoken to you in a book.

For thus says the LORD:
Incurable is your wound,
grievous your bruise;
There is none to plead your cause,
no remedy for your running sore,
no healing for you.
All your lovers have forgotten you,
they do not seek you.
I struck you as an enemy would strike,
punished you cruelly;
Why cry out over your wound?
your pain is without relief.
Because of your great guilt,
your numerous sins,
I have done this to you.

Thus says the LORD:
See! I will restore the tents of Jacob,
his dwellings I will pity;
City shall be rebuilt upon hill,
and palace restored as it was.
From them will resound songs of praise,
the laughter of happy men.
I will make them not few, but many;
they will not be tiny, for I will glorify them.
His sons shall be as of old,
his assembly before me shall stand firm;
I will punish all his oppressors.
His leader shall be one of his own,
and his rulers shall come from his kin.
When I summon him, he shall approach me;
how else should one take the deadly risk
of approaching me? says the LORD.
You shall be my people,
and I will be your God.

The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm

Ps 102:16-18, 19-21, 29 and 22-23

R. The Lord will build up Zion again, and appear in all his glory.

The nations shall revere your name, O LORD,
and all the kings of the earth your glory,
When the LORD has rebuilt Zion
and appeared in his glory;
When he has regarded the prayer of the destitute,
and not despised their prayer.

R. The Lord will build up Zion again, and appear in all his glory.

Let this be written for the generation to come,
and let his future creatures praise the LORD:
“The LORD looked down from his holy height,
from heaven he beheld the earth,
To hear the groaning of the prisoners,
to release those doomed to die.”

R. The Lord will build up Zion again, and appear in all his glory.

The children of your servants shall abide,
and their posterity shall continue in your presence,
That the name of the LORD may be declared on Zion;
and his praise, in Jerusalem,
When the peoples gather together
and the kingdoms, to serve the LORD.

R. The Lord will build up Zion again, and appear in all his glory.

Alleluia, Alleluia.

Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.

Alleluia, Alleluia.

Gospel

Mt 14:22-36

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew

Jesus made the disciples get into a boat
and precede him to the other side of the sea,
while he dismissed the crowds.
After doing so, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray.
When it was evening he was there alone.
Meanwhile the boat, already a few miles offshore,
was being tossed about by the waves, for the wind was against it.
During the fourth watch of the night,
he came toward them, walking on the sea.
When the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified.
“It is a ghost,” they said, and they cried out in fear.
At once Jesus spoke to them, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.”
Peter said to him in reply, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.”
He said, “Come.”
But when he saw how strong the wind was he became frightened;
and, beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!”
Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught him,
and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
After they got into the boat, the wind died down.
Those who were in the boat did him homage, saying,
“Truly, you are the Son of God.”

After making the crossing, they came to land at Gennesaret.
When the men of that place recognized him,
they sent word to all the surrounding country.
People brought to him all those who were sick
and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak,
and as many as touched it were healed

The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.

Christify
Sanctify
Manoling V. Francisco, SJ

Sanctify the gifts we bring to You,
Bounty of the earth receive anew.
Take and bless the work of our hands.
Sanctify these gifts at Your command.

Sun and moon and earth and wind and rain:
All the world's contained in every grain.
All the toil and dreams of humankind,
All we are we bring as bread and wine.

Turn the bread and wine, our hearts implore,
To the living presence of the Lord.
Blessed and broken, shared with all in need;
All our hungers, sacred bread will feed.

With this bread and wine You sanctify,
Now our deepest thirst You satisfy.
We who by this bread You sanctify
Draw the world for You to sanctify.

Our Father
Light from Light
M.V. Francisco, SJ

Our Father,
who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name;
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day
our daily bread, and
forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who
trespass against us;
and lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us,
deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and forever.

Huwag Kang Mangamba
O.R. Pagsanghan, M.V. Francisco, SJ

Huwag kang mangamba,
di ka nag-iisa;
sasamahan kita
saan man magpunta.
Ika’y mahalaga
sa ‘king mga mata.
Minamahal kita.
Minamahal kita.

Tinawag kita sa‘yong pangalan.
Ikaw ay akin magpakailan man.
Ako ang Panginoon mo at Diyos,
tagapagligtas mo at taga tubos.

Huwag kang mangamba,
di ka nag-iisa;
sasamahan kita
saan man magpunta.
Ika’y mahalaga
sa ‘king mga mata.
Minamahal kita.
Minamahal kita.

Sa tubig kita’y sasagipin.
Sa apoy ililigtas man din.
Ako ang Panginoon mo at Diyos,
tagapagligtas mo at taga tubos.

Huwag kang mangamba,
di ka nag-iisa;
sasamahan kita
saan man magpunta.
Ika’y mahalaga
sa ‘king mga mata.
Minamahal kita.
Minamahal kita.

Awit ng Paghahangad
Charlie Cenzon, NSJ

O D’yos, Ikaw ang laging
hanap, loob ko’y Ikaw ang
tanging hangad.
Nauuhaw akong parang
tigang na lupa, sa tubig
ng ‘Yong pag-aaruga.

Ika’y pagmamasdan sa
dakong banal, nang makita ko
ang 'Yong pagkarangal.
Dadalangin akong nakataas
aking kamay, magagalak na
aawit ng papuring iaalay.

Gunita ko’y Ikaw habang
nahihimlay pagkat ang
tulong Mo sa tuwina’y taglay.
Sa lilim ng Iyong mga pakpak
umaawit akong buong galak.

Aking kaluluwa’y
kumakapit sa ‘Yo.
Kaligtasa’y t’yak kong
hawak Mo ako.
Magdiriwang ang hari ang
Diyos S’yang dahilan.
Ang sa Iyo ay nangakong
galak yaong makakamtan.

Gunita ko’y Ikaw habang
nahihimlay pagkat ang
tulong Mo sa tuwina’y taglay.
Sa lilim ng Iyong mga pakpak
umaawit, umaawit, umaawit
akong buong galak.

Gospel Canticle

Ant. Lord, save us from the hands of all who hate us.

Canticle of Zechariah
Luke 1:68-79
The Messiah and his forerunner

Blessed + be the Lord, the God of Israel; *
he has come to his people and set them free.

He has raised up for us a mighty savior, *
born of the house of his servant David.

Through his holy prophets he promised of old
that he would save us from our enemies, *
from the hands of all who hate us.

He promised to show mercy to our fathers *
and to remember his holy covenant.

This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham: *
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
free to worship him without fear, *
holy and righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High; *
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
to give his people knowledge of salvation *
by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God *
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, *
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever. Amen.

Ant. Lord, save us from the hands of all who hate us.
